Radio Comix announces Online Comics Initiative
Radio Comix is proud to announce it is expanding it's publishing ventures March to include downloadable online comics. Utilitizing Adobe's Portable Document Format, comics can be downloaded off the site, unlocked for a modest fee and read with a free viewer.
"The advantages are numerous," says Pat Duke, co-publisher at Radio Comix. "We're seeking to make our comics available to anyone in the world, 24 hours a day. Many of our fans don't live near retail stores or have problems finding our titles abroad. We want to pick up where traditional distribution methods have left off to insure everyone who wants one of our books can get it."
Radio Comix plans to offer new material as well as selected reprints of many of it's titles starting with Brandon Graham's Universe So Big. Also scheduled are Will Allison's Trouble Express and Rusty Haller's Space Girl among others.
In addition to comics you can purchase, Radio plans to offer free comics and previews using the PDF format. "We're also looking forward to releasing several full-color projects. Unlike traditional printing, color titles can be published on the internet for no additional cost and with better color fidelity than on paper. The money we save on printing results in a drastically reduced cost for the consumer." says Pat. "Online titles are expected to cost only a dollar, making it an excellent opportunity for readers to experiment with new titles."
There are other advantages to online comics as well. "Readers who purchase our online comics are actually puchasing a license for the electronic form of the comic. This has numerous advantages. If they lose the comic --say their hard drive crashes-- they can always revisit the site and download it for free. If they lose the password to the file, they're a registered user and we'll be happy to email them their password." says Pat. "The internet really changes the nature of publishing. We feel it's important for a publisher to pursue these new markets --both for the benefit of our readers and our creators."
Initially Radio Comix will begin accepting electronic payment via PayPal for downloaded titles. As the program progresses we'll be offering additional payment methods and services including having your order burned on CD and shipped to you.
