Welcome, friends and fans!
As you can see, I'm getting ready for the September 1st launch of D&M here at Radio Comix! One of the things that I want to do is mention in the news posts about some of the "in jokes" that are on these pages.
As I was drawing them, I found myself really in awe of the talents of the inker, the letterer, and colorist and it seemed a shame that they had to run around and make me look wonderful and they get a small credit and pay... and that's it. But to me, they were more than "someone to make my art look incredibly good. They are all artists in their own right.
So I made a deal with them (sort of under the table... Donning/Starblaze didn't know about it, and I'm not sure I ever told Bob) -- they could put in random faces or wanted posters or books... anything the size of a thumbnail wherever they thought it would be fun to have a decoration. So we have all sorts of wild things in these pages (including Bob's first ever published artwork, wherein we find out why he's NOT an artist). Part of the fun of being able to share this on the web is that I can sit down and point out to everyone all the hilarious things that showed up in the pages -- like our running joke, "Thrilling Tabloid Trash."
I hope that being able to have fun with the graphic novel made it less of a grind for the other artists. I know that I loved seeing what they did!
This was always one of my favorites — I still have the originals, signed. So great they are seeing the light of day again, a great tribute to your and Bob’s work: I know we all miss him.
PS: just the other day I was thinking to myself “PeenchPini.” That’s scary!
Back when I was in high school, I found book 2 of the series at a local used book store. Over the years I miraculously managed to hunt down books 1 and 3 and still pull them out periodically for a good read and a good laugh. Now I’ll get to see if there were any gags I missed. Thanks for posting these.
