Hm, I don’t think this page is too gratuitous? Because yeah, I don’t think Beast would be one to sugarcoat what he’s done or try to sweep it under the rug. Not to mention, he still considers himself as monsterous, and this would be driving the point further. …I think I basically just repeated what you wrote, but that’s because I agree, haha. XD
I just really like the shading to hide Beast’s eyes. XD
Yay :3 Yeah, Beast… he was in a very bad place when this happened, and retelling it – remember, this is the first and ONLY time he’s actually told this to anyone in a couple hundred years – is just bringing it all flooding back. It’s almost a catharsis, getting it all out there, and Beast is self-aware enough to see himself as a monster, but he just can’t bring himself to regret what he did.
Thanks. I didn’t want to really focus on Beast’s expression, because he’s… well, he’s still smiling, and crying at the same time, but those are almost.. involuntary? He’s not really… connected at the moment? What he’s feeling, what’s inside him, is just too big to really deal with, so it gets out any way it can, tears, smiling, a sword in his hand….
I think the word you’re wanting for that expression is rictus. A fixed and twisted grin having nothing to do with joy, and everything to do with madness.
Wow. I’m not sure he can ~get~ much worse than this without going really sadistic (which Garreth isn’t. Maddened, quite literally, by pain and rage, yes; sadistic, no), but yeah, leaving things up to one’s imagination can get… colourful.
Quite frankly, I have nothing but contempt for his uncle. Had the man never heard of things like, oh, I dunno, TALKING TO PEOPLE ABOUT THESE THINGS? There’s no evidence of him ever having tried to communicate to Garreth that maybe Beatrice wasn’t the perfect girl for him after all, because, y’know, there’s that “strong family resemblance” thing, and think of the kiddies and such…
So yeah, I tend to see the spot where poor Garreth is at the moment as a justifiable one, and I can see him taking to the family tendency to over-react (as demonstrated earlier by his uncle) with a certain amount of gusto in the situation.
It’s also worth noting: the killing of the intended bride of the ruler of a country by what amounts to an armed mob is technically one of the multitude of indicators of a political coup in progress. As someone who was raised up to be said ruler, I suspect at least part of Garreth’s brain was running some coldly political calculations at the same time the rest of it was going “kill the bastards, kill ALL the bastards, oh gods oh gods oh gods what the fuck happened, oh Beatrice, WAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!” and similar such nonsense.
Oh yes, she will have some juicy material to work with. But seeing the sloppy work she did with it, I really hope she didn’t get her Master of Curses degree.
It must be awful for Beast, carrying this around inside of himself for all these years. It’s kind of amazing he’s not completely insane, because he’s not really. He can have polite dinner conversations and snowball fights and get mad at hissing cats and give magic mirror presents, and all the time this is lurking inside of him just kind of . . . stewing.
Yeah. He’s really just got this big ball of.. of THIS inside him. He can pretend he’s sorta okay(and even then he’s still killing people), as long as he doesn’t do more than brush the surface. And to be fair it’s pretty much all his self-preservation instinct can do to keep him functional.

Wow, he is a seriously dangerous Mofo. Probably something that SOMEONE should have thought about before killing his fiancee (and not even bothering to tackle him and tie him down to something before he saw what they were up to and, rightly, freaked out).
I love the way you’ve shadowed his eyes and that last panel is gorgeously terrifying. Makes him seem utterly implacable and unstoppable.

Yes. Thank you 🙂 (also hi!)
Also… if it hadn’t been there, I’d’ve probably imagined something even WORSE,somehow. Poor, poor Garreth.

The communication is a bit screwed up, yeah.
re: that third paragraph. Yes. We’ll get to that, sort of, in a few pages. XD
Oh man….. and the fay woman’s still there and looking for a project to use as a master-work, isn’t she? **shudders** Gaahhhhh…..
Oh yes, she will have some juicy material to work with. But seeing the sloppy work she did with it, I really hope she didn’t get her Master of Curses degree.
Well-extrapolated. We’ll find out what happened in just a few pages, and yes we’ll find out (kind of in-passing) what happened to her later, too.
Yep. Garreth really just shouldn’t have gotten out of bed that morning, pretty much.
Oh Garreth.
