The very first page. I can't tell you how terrified I felt when I was drawing this one -- I'd never intended to do comics, hadn't read them in ages, and suddenly I *had* to do a graphic novel, thanks to dear old Bob who kept throwing me into crocodile pit situations to see if I'd survive. He'd grin and bop me on the nose if he'd seen this, calling me "Little Dragon" and telling me I underestimated myself... again.
There was no way I could make the book titles legible with the amount of shrinkage needed to get on the page. So all the tiny details will be on the "Wednesday in-jokes" page for everyone to enjoy.
There's a LOT of little details! Trust me (as Mallory would say.)
What-with the pixelation, I can’t make out [even with a magnifying glass] what the titles of the books are that the children are reading. ARE there actual words there or just scribbles?
There’s real words there… it’s on the in-jokes page on Wednesday.
The pixellations represent real problems that I’m working on. By the time I blur the color to the right stage, the blacks are bleeding all over the place.
I still remember how you pointed out a place where Bob actually ‘modeled’ a pose. Don’t forget to point that one out! 🙂
A neat comic to stumble on, one look at it, and a best wish to a good start!
I am beside myself with joy. I remember this from 1986, when I found the first of the D&M graphic novels (I am aware of two more that followed). Oh sweet Nirvana.
Mel, have you considered the possibility of a “high-rez” version (larger graphic image, fewer headaches resolving teeny-tiny text). Granted, it may mean more work and expense, but your readers will, I hope, appreciate it immensely.
Thanks.
Found this when I was searching for info on the new Wildside collection
(SQUEE)
Google shows no info on it, although BN.com lets you pre-order it if you search by the EAN:9781434432117
Now… can we agitate NOW for a 3-in-1 hardcover omnibus edition to be published sometime in the future?
But of course! And there will be more. I’m in school right now and this has delayed things but after the third one is finished, the fourth will start. I have an inker and colorist for it. I just have to raise the money.
