That first panel is so adorable! Just the interaction between the two of them-gah, so sweet! And so very cruel to make us watch them being happy knowing that awful awful things are going to happen!
The horse in the last panel reminds me of Beast. I think it’s the black mane. On a related note-why did Garreth’s horse when he first saw Beatrice look completely ordinary? Did I miss wings or little horns someplace or are some horses just normal looking? The ones on the carriage in the very beginning had wings (I think) so it seems like most horses have extra features.

Haa, I didn’t even spot that, or do it intentionally. But you’re right, he ~does~ look like Beast. :3 As to the horses, this is around the time when people are first starting to deliberately use magic to add non-horse traits to straight-up horses. So there are some horses with horns and odd coats, but nothing like the ubiquity of unicorn-type horses that you see by Bastian’s time.
Branwyn’s dad is actually one of the horse-merchants who’s in on breeding the new pegasus-type horses, which is why his carriage was being drawn by them way back at the beginning of the series in the first chapter. It’s also what’s providing a lot of profit for Dirk and Branwyn, since pegasus-types are all the rage. But Beast doesn’t have any pegasus-types because they’re too recent and the only place he gets new stock is if the people he feeds to his roses had horses. ^____^

XD;; I kinda skipped a few months. So the dresses were the previous queen’s (or most of them were) and only had to be slightly adjusted. *coff*

They are adorable and that makes me sad because I know that bad things are a-coming. I love how different Beast’s behaviour is compared to how he’s going to behave in the future.
