but still, it was not so rare as to be unknown to the public, it was just rare, something to be eaten on occasions of weddings or feast days.
Though this is a response to an old post, sweets were also made from other things besides sugar, such as honey or dried fruit. Also its worth noting that this is not OUR world so it may be a little more common, at least common enough to be afforded by the general public.
