This just makes me question why the elf curses Garreth. Does she think this was all a plot by him? Was she rescusing him from something? Was the crowd going to kill him? I have to know!!!
I’m guessing he’s going to be cursed for kin-killing, because I’m pretty sure Uncle isn’t going to survive much past Gareth’s arrival.
A fairly constant theme in stories with elves / Fair Folk, especially Celtic or Irish stories, is that the rules are rigid and have no exceptions. One example I remember was a hero who was under a geas; if he ate dog, he would be cursed. He was a guest in a home where they served dog. If he ate it, curse. If he didn’t eat it, crime against hospitality, still curse. In Gareth’s case, killing kin, especially *older* kin who you’re supposed to respect, is a horrible crime… even if they really, really deserved it.
Oh no! Love the way you’ve put this together, with Garreth rushing so desperately but we already know it’s too late, which makes it even more tragic. The contrast between the first panel and the last is really striking.
BAD Guilliame! BAD BAD BAD! STOP that! BAD man! Bad bad BAD!!!!!
Also, dude who’s helping him, what makes you think this is going to end well for you?
Beatrice is all disheveled in the last panel. We’ve seen how spunky she is and she obviously fought back. Too bad she didn’t have that woodcutting ax with her.
Alternatively, the “curse” is in the same sense as the sleep of a hundred years in “Sleeping Beauty” – the curse placed on the princess by the wicked fairy couldn’t be removed, so instead the good fairy altered the original curse such that instead of dying, the princess fell into a coma (and the rest of the family with her). The elven sorceress can’t actually undo the workings of fate (the kingdom is going to fall because Garreth and Beatrice fell in love; marriage between siblings that close is a major taboo for very good reasons). What she can do, however, is transform things such that the surviving (or possibly suicidal) innocent victim in all of this (Garreth, who really wasn’t given the information he needed to avoid the blasted problem in the first place, let’s remember – nobody MENTIONED he had a twin sister out there) is given a chance to find love again.
I’d presume Uncle Guillaume was cursed to haunt the chapel for the crime of kin-slaying-by-proxy – it’s pretty clear he’s the vengeful spirit who’s remaining around and who attacked ‘Bastian.
(Also, being transformed into a non-human immortal being coming hard on the heels of a tragedy of that sort is likely to traumatise anyone. Hence the Beast’s rather grumpy temperament).

*evil cackle!* All shall be revealed… in time!

A very interesting theory, and very traditional fairy-tale type thinking. :3
And that style of answer probably means I’m wrong.
…or AM I? *dramatic music* XD
Aaaaaaaah, noooooooooo. ;_____; (And you can REALLY see their family resemblance in that last panel)
But he’s doing this PUBLICALLY? lskdjf;lkdj;fdife
Yyyyyeah, unfortunately. (thanks ^_^ )
Yep. >.> It’s, uh, not going to be pretty.

*gibberflails*
Thank you.
Haha, half of me is cackling evily and the other half is desperately wanting to rescue Beatrice and Garreth from upcoming events, augh.

>_> Yyep.
Woodcutters axes should as standard for princessly self-defense is an awesome idea.

(fffffff, I want to just discuss ~everything~ but I shall be patient! XD No spoilers when I’m this close. *sits on hands* )
