Aaaaaah, oh my god, that shadow in the first panel and all the crossthatching and hngggggggggf. But you can still see his belt buckle and sdfs
I love her older form’s face, all those deep wrinkles. And I love the magic in the final panel too.
Now that I’m done flailing all over your art, AAAAAAAAAAAH BEAST NOOOOOOO. AND SHE’S CASTING A/THE SPELL AND JDLFASJDF;LSKD ‘Cast in haste’ HAAAAAAAAAA. Yeeeah.
^__^ She's so much fun to draw in her older form, and she pretty much picked that so that she could play the 'crotchety old woman' to the hilt.
*sneeerk* YES. 'Cast in haste' is, uh, accurate. *halo-halo* (pretty much the spell equivalent of picking up whatever comes to hand and chucking it at the guy trying to kill you XD; )
“(pretty much the spell equivalent of picking up whatever comes to hand and chucking it at the guy trying to kill you XD; )”
…Like her masterwork curse? Hoooo boy. 8D
*cackles* Yeah that Cast in Haste now makes *so* much more sense. Poor dear. Using her “masterpiece” like that to save herself. Hopefully the magic curse will snap him out of this.
Oh dear. This does explain a lot about that particular curse – very much an “off the rack” job rather than “bespoke tailoring”. I presume our elven maiden does survive long enough (while Beast is coming to terms with the new hardware, so to speak) to be able to explain the terms & conditions of his new “purchase” to him.
I dooooo believe I remember a familiar-looking old crone (with attendant King Cat) in the very very early pages, warning travellers away from Ye Creepy Castle. XD
To be honest i have no real interest in yaoi stories, and probably wouldn’t have have read it if i had realized at the beginning that it was to be a yaoi story (grumbles about hindsight and all of that.). On the other hand I really do appreciate a well told story and this one drew me in despite my realization of the subject matter.
I do love that you take classic tropes and play with them, such as the prince initially granting the fairy kindness and Beast being compelled to react the way he does in certain situations by the curse. This helps keep them fresh.
You mentioned in the comments some pages back that you think the only tales we hear about are the ones that do end happily. On the contrary, if you look at a lot of the original fairy tales, they were a lot darker and not every one ended happily. Think of Pan’s Labyrinth and the fae of Hellboy II for modern stories a lot closer to the original European traditions. Modern versions of fairy tales for children have been sanitized to death as our culture became increasingly PC. though i have noticed we’re starting to get away from that for older folks (such as the mentioned examples.)
I’m glad you found the story to be well told. ^_^ I do my best to tell an interesting and solid story, both by exploring the characters and expanding on the situation – applying real world logic to fairy-tale situations, if you will.
Fairy tales were definitely sanitized in the past few decades, especially. You have a good point about the pendulum starting to swing the other way though – Pan’s Labyrinth especially was a wild ride.

<3 Haa thank you! 😀

*sighs* Self fulfilling prophecies are a B*tch!
Yyyyep. XDDD This was not a premeditated spellcasting – she just grabbed whatever was ‘closest’ and, well.

(No refunds. You break it, you bought it… sorta).
Yyyup. She didn’t have time to do much more than throw it, nevermind tailor it and tuck in the corners. She does survive. *coff*

Here’s where the spell-driven excrement impacts the rotating blades!
Yyyup.

Jesus, he’s terrifying! Your use of dark and light is amazing.
That would probably be my terrified reaction too.
Yeah, he really is. Thank you. 🙂
