Loved Furrlough Artist Passes Away

Cartoonist Rusty Haller has passed away today, as reported by his roommate on his FurAffinity journal. Rusty suffered from diabetes for many years, though it was undiagnosed for some time. He was 45 years old. (I have not confirmed this death announcement with any outside sources yet.)

Rusty had a long and varied career in comics, starting in the mid-1980's, with work-for-hire on Deputy Dawg comics. He did a lot of contract work for Marvel on their licensed comics line in the early and mid 1990's, including titles like Alf, Danger Mouse, and Count Duckula. In the last few years, Rusty had been working on his creator owned series, Ace & Queenie, a charming funny animal send-up of Sixties spy films. The series ran in Furrlough on an irregular schedule, starting in issue #146. He also regularly contributed to Hit the Beach and did regular commission work for his fans.

I just talked to Rusty on the phone a few days ago, and we were full of plans to put Ace & Queenie up on the Radio Comix site with an eye towards a future collected print version. We also chatted about some other ideas he'd had kicking around for a few years- comics that could now come to light, with the advent of web publishing. I'm deeply saddened that all those great ideas will come to naught, and that Rusty's dreams can't be realized now.

Rusty was one of the nicest people we've had the pleasure of working with. He was always upbeat and positive, and he was a solid worker when it came to his pages. A consummate professional, he always welcomed honest criticism and constantly strove to improve his work.

He was a great guy, and I will miss him. His sometimes silly, sometimes serious stories always made me smile.

Snack time!

Radio Comix has new Digs!

This past Sunday, we just completed a move of our home office to new digs! Unfortunately, this means we will be delayed in shipping out orders for at least another week while we unpack and set everything up. (Also, while we wait for the internet and phone to get switched over to the new place... they have been off for the past week or so.) We are hoping to complete our unpacking and office set up by next Monday (9/7/09), but please do not panic if it takes a little longer for us to get everything back on track regarding the mail order. (It's a LOT of boxes of stock to organize after 12 years in business!) We apologize for the delay this will cause to our mail order service and thank you all in advance for your patience!

SPECIAL NOTE: Our mailing address WILL NOT CHANGE. We receive all our mail at a private mail box, since it makes it easier when we are at conventions or in case we need to move. Our emails, web addresses, etc. will also not be changing at all. Once we're finished setting up, we'll have more new goodies added to the online store, ready for you to peruse and purchase at your leisure!

Ebin & May updating twice a week

Yup! That’s right. Ebin and May, starting with this weeks pages is going to be updating twice a week, Tuesdays and Thursdays.

It’s good to have a backlog. ^.^

Bureau of Mana Investigation comics now live!

We're very pleased to announce that one of our classic Radio Comix titles, Bureau of Mana Investigation by Smudge Hanson & Ed Garcia is now live and ready for reading online!

BMI is a delightful urban fantasy tale- part police procedural, part high fantasy adventure and part romance! Featuring the expressive art and deft storytelling that Smudge is famous for, it is a fantastic mix of drama, humor and high octane action in the futuristic fantasy setting of Nivarria! Recommended for fans of anime, A Distant Soil or the Shadowrun RPG series.

The first pages are now live on the Radio Comix Online site, and will have regular weekly updates. We hope you'll check it out!

Bureau of Mana Investigation

Asprin and White’s Duncan & Mallory Coming Soon!

We are very excited to announce the addition of a classic fantasy comic to our webcomics lineup! Cartoonist Mel. White and the late author Robert Asprin first collaborated on Duncan & Mallory in the heady days of the 1980's comic boom, leaving fans clamoring for more. Now, White will be creating new strips featuring these beloved characters- Duncan, the hapless adventurer, and Mallory, the small, vegetarian blue dragon.

The strips will debut on the Radio Comix Online site, and have regular, weekly updates. We are extremely proud to be a part of the return of this classic comic strip!

Radio Comics & Anthrocon (AC)

Just a quick note for anyone attending Anthrocon- we sadly will not be able to attend this year. We have an office/home move that is going to be going on the same month as the convention, so that takes priority. We'll definitely be there with bells on next year, but fear not! Our esteemed colleague Fuzzwolf, he of FurPlanet (http://furplanet.com/shop/) fame, will have some of our latest books with him on consignment. So, you'll still be able to get your Radio Comix fix, just not directly from Elin's tiny hands. FurPlanet will be at tables A-16 through A-18, so be sure to go check them out at the convention!

A-Kon Bound!

This weekend, the Radio staff will be heading up to Dallas, Texas for A-Kon 20, the oldest anime convention in the US! The convention runs from May 29-31, and promises to be a great time as usual! Last year the attendance topped 15,000 excited anime fans, and the convention is chock full of events, panels, and things to do and see. You can learn more at http://www.a-kon.com

Look for the Radio Comix tables in the Dealers' Room, and don't miss our panel on Sunday afternoon! Attending will be Elin Winkler, Will Allison, DAQ, Phil "Poinko" Gibson, Shon Howell, Brian Sutton, Matt High, and many more fantastic artists, writers and talents!

We hope to see many of you there!

Webcomix are here!

As we busily finish the last bits of the new and much improved Radio Comix site, we can happily announce our new webcomix section.

First title available is the long running Furrlough story Ebin and May.

So please come and check it out.

Forums now live!

Whoohoo! We've got the Forums up and going again, Please feel free to create a login and start chatting. All your radio friends and enthusiasts will be there!

Furrlough Color Special

I can finally announce a new special project we're doing in May, in conjunction with our friends over at Antarctic Press!

It's basically a color one-shot special and I'm hoping it does well! It'd be nice if it could become an annual occurrence, but that all depends on how well this Furrlough Color Special sells, naturally. ^_^; So, here's hoping it sells like gangbusters!

It's going to be an awesome issue, full color, with art from a bunch of great guys and gals! We'll definitely have it in time for summer con season, including A-Kon (hopefully!) and Anthrocon (definitely!)!

Please pardon our dust!

As you can see - we're busy at work building a bigger and better Radio Comix.

There'll be plenty of new awesomeness going on there once the construction is completed- news, free online comics, online archives of some of our best classic comics, a fresh new forum, and even more!

But please bear with us until the construction dust settles and the migration gets finished. It'll be a little wonky until then. ^_^

Of course, since it is hosted elsewhere, the Radio Comix Online Store, is still up and running and isn't going anywhere. Hooray!
